AJMER: The girl students
of government
secondary school in Madarpura were a happy lot on Monday. Like most of
their
counterparts across the country, they would now get computer education
in the
school.
Union minister of state for communications and information
technology Sachin Pilot distributed 550 computers to 224 schools at a
public
function in the district on Monday.
Addressing people at the Azad
Park in the city, Pilot said, “Information technology is a vital tool to
prepare our children to meet the challenges of the 21st century.” He
wished more students from the villages could be provided with computer
education.
He said he would ensure that the benefits of technology
and education reach the lowest denominator in the district. The
computers were
distributed free of cost by a private manufacturer to the government and
recognized schools in the district.
“Schools in Kishangarh,
Bijainagar, Makupura, Sardarpura received these computers,” said
Damyanti
Parmar, district education officer. While senior secondary schools got
three
sets each, secondary schools were given two sets of computer each. Some
computer
sets have been distributed to dumb and blind schools located in remote
areas of
the district.
During his visit, Pilot also inaugurated the 3G mobile
service in Nasirabad town in Ajmer. Speaking about the access to mobile
technology to the rural poor, he said the services could be improved and
made
more cost-efficient.
Minister of state for petroleum Jitin Prasada,
addressing people with Pilot in Durai village, said cheap LPG will be
provided
to villages under Rajiv Gandhi rural LPG distribution project. “In the
next five years, every rural household will have a gas connection,” the
minister said. |
